A Song That Inspired a Nation
Written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee on November 7, 1875, during the auspicious occasion of Akshay Navami, “Vande Mataram” became a rallying cry during India’s independence movement. The song’s words continue to represent India’s cultural strength, unity, and devotion to the motherland.

Ahead of the event, Prime Minister Modi posted on X (formerly Twitter), saying:
“November 7 will be a historic day for every Indian. We are celebrating 150 years of our inspiring national song, Vande Mataram. It is a call that awakened generations with the spirit of patriotism and sacrifice.”
He added that he feels privileged to be part of the celebration in Delhi, where a commemorative stamp and coin will be released. The mass singing of Vande Mataram, he said, will be the highlight of the event.

The spirit of Vande Mataram 150 Years is not limited to Delhi. Across Uttar Pradesh and other states, schools and institutions have planned special cultural programs, patriotic song competitions, and exhibitions showcasing the song’s journey from 1875 to today.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has also announced large-scale singing events at multiple locations across Uttar Pradesh to mark the day.
A Moment of Pride for Every Indian
The 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram is not just a celebration of a song, but a reminder of India’s rich heritage and the sacrifices made for freedom. As the lyrics echo once again across the nation, they revive the timeless message of unity — “Mother, I bow to thee.”
