Nagpur, October 2, 2025
In a powerful address marking the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s (RSS) centenary year, RSS Sarsanghachalak Mohan Bhagwat delivered a message of caution and unity. Speaking at the organisation’s headquarters in Nagpur during his annual Vijayadashami speech, Bhagwat urged hardliners to refrain from provocative acts that could divide communities.
Bhagwat’s Message to Hardliners: No Room for Provocation
Bhagwat warned against organising “shows of strength” deliberately aimed at provoking a community. He said such acts may bring temporary attention but cause long-term harm to society. Stressing discipline and harmony, he appealed to the youth to remain vigilant and intervene whenever communal tensions are artificially created.
“Everyone has their own beliefs, great personalities, and places of worship,” Bhagwat said. “We must ensure these are respected in thought, speech, and action.”
Diversity as India’s Strength
Highlighting India’s cultural and social fabric, Bhagwat said diversity is not a weakness but a unique strength. He reminded citizens that different castes, communities, sects, and traditions have coexisted peacefully for centuries.
“Despite our differences in language, lifestyle, food habits, or geography, we are part of one larger society,” he said. “We must treat our diversity as a source of pride, not division.”
This theme of embracing diversity has been a consistent feature of Bhagwat’s speeches, but in 2025 it carried special weight as the RSS celebrates its 100 years of existence.
Law, Order, and Social Responsibility
Calling upon both the administration and the people, Bhagwat underlined that law and order must be upheld impartially. While the government must act fairly, society too must take responsibility to prevent violence.
He warned against mob behaviour and vigilante justice, stating:
“For small disputes or suspicions, resorting to violence or hooliganism is unacceptable. Harmony, discipline, and lawful conduct must become second nature to every citizen.”
Lessons from History
Bhagwat reflected on India’s past, noting that foreign powers who once ruled the country have long left, but their influence remains in some communities who continue to live here as fellow Indians. Accepting and respecting these differences, he argued, has been a key factor in India’s survival as a civilisation.
“The rise of any nation depends on the unity of its people,” he said. “Unity is India’s greatest identity, and it must always remain our priority.”
A Call for Youth Participation
The RSS chief also placed responsibility on the younger generation, urging them to be alert, organised, and ready to intervene against divisive tendencies. According to him, a strong and aware youth is essential for building a harmonious society.
Why Bhagwat’s 2025 Speech Matters
Mohan Bhagwat’s Vijayadashami address comes at a time when India faces increasing polarisation in politics and society. His warning against planned provocations and community clashes is seen as a significant message to both RSS cadres and the wider political ecosystem.
Analysts note that by emphasising impartial governance, societal discipline, and unity in diversity, Bhagwat has attempted to strike a balance between tradition and contemporary challenges.
