Campaigning for the 12 Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) bypoll seats has entered a high-energy phase as the BJP, AAP, and Congress conduct rallies, community meetings, and extensive door-to-door visits to mobilise voters ahead of polling day.
BJP Projects Strong Performance, Rekha Gupta Leads Mega Outreach
On Sunday, the BJP launched widespread door-to-door canvassing across all 12 wards starting at 7:30 am.
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva claimed that the party’s internal numbers showed they were “on track to win 11 out of 12 seats,” crediting what he called the party’s strong organisational network.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta remained the central figure of the BJP campaign throughout the day. She addressed seven back-to-back meetings, including:
Panna Pramukh conventions in Ashok Vihar and Dwarka B
Interactions with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) in Greater Kailash
Public meetings in Sangam Vihar A, Sainik Vihar, and Vinod Nagar
Gupta instructed party workers to “cross-verify the voter list and ensure maximum turnout before lunchtime on voting day.” She said she was confident Delhi voters would “give a decisive reply to Arvind Kejriwal’s politics.”
Senior BJP figures — including MP Manoj Tiwari, Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra, MPs Parvesh Verma and Ramveer Singh Bidhuri, and leader Ashish Sood — fanned out across multiple wards to strengthen the campaign.
MP Manoj Tiwari, speaking at gatherings in Mundka, Dhichkaun Kalan, and Greater Kailash, highlighted that the BJP had “fulfilled its Chhath Puja commitments” to the Purvanchal community.
AAP Calls for Accountability, Criticises BJP and Congress
AAP leaders also intensified their ground campaign.
Delhi State AAP president Saurabh Bharadwaj, campaigning for candidate Reshna Gupta in Greater Kailash 1, urged residents to “demand accountability instead of accepting vague promises.” He questioned whether BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj was fulfilling her commitments and said Delhi needed councillors who “remain present and stand by the people.”
Senior leader Durgesh Pathak held multiple rallies, focusing on municipal issues and accusing the BJP of “hollow claims.”
Congress Runs Ward-to-Ward Campaign, Holds Protest in Chandni Mahal
The Congress, led by Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav, conducted widespread campaigning across all wards.
In Chandni Mahal, party workers held a silent protest wearing black, accusing both the BJP and AAP of ignoring essential civic needs such as sanitation, infrastructure gaps, and public health services.
Yadav said that Congress candidate Shahzad Ahmed would “ensure residents are not left alone in their fight for basic facilities” and promised a more accessible and responsive councillor.
Bharadwaj Flags Controversy Over 400-Bed Hospital in GK-1
In a separate statement, AAP’s Saurabh Bharadwaj raised concerns about an allegedly illegal 400-bed hospital in Greater Kailash-1.
He accused the Delhi government of:
Allowing the project despite resident objections
Ignoring ongoing court scrutiny
Overlooking misuse of government land
Failing to address long-pending civic irregularities
Bharadwaj also criticised the BJP for “keeping liquor shops open on Chhath” and just days before Guru Tegh Bahadur’s 350th martyrdom anniversary, calling the decision “insensitive to cultural sentiments.”
