The Indus Zone Tech Desk | Guwahati, October 30, 2025 | Assam Pays Tribute to Zubeen Garg
Assam is preparing for an emotional cinematic tribute as the late music legend Zubeen Garg’s final film, Roi Roi Binale, gears up for an exclusive statewide screening starting October 31. The state government has decided that no other films will be screened in Assam theatres as a mark of respect for the beloved singer and actor.
Assam Unites to Honour Zubeen Garg
Zubeen Garg, one of Assam’s most iconic cultural figures, passed away in Singapore on September 19 after suffering a seizure while swimming. He was 52. The news of his sudden demise shocked fans across India, especially in the Northeast, where he was considered a cultural icon and youth inspiration.
In a heartfelt move, all cinema halls across Assam will play Roi Roi Binale, his last musical romantic drama. According to reports, theatres will temporarily halt all other ongoing and upcoming film releases, including Thamma, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, Kantara: A Legend Chapter–1, Jolly LLB 3, and even international titles like Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle and The Black Phone 2.
A Statewide Tribute Through Cinema
The film’s director Rajesh Bhuyan announced that Roi Roi Binale will serve as a posthumous celebration of Zubeen Garg’s life and legacy. He described the film as a musical love story that captures Zubeen’s creative energy and passion for Assamese culture.
“Every theatre in Assam will exclusively play Roi Roi Binale from October 31. This is our collective way of saying goodbye to the legend,” said Bhuyan.
The movie will also feature Zubeen’s original voice recordings, making it even more special for his fans and followers.
Appeal for Tax Exemption on Zubeen Garg’s Last Film
In a gesture of respect, Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi has urged the Assam Government to make Roi Roi Binale tax-free. In a letter addressed to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Gogoi requested that the state waive taxes as a tribute to Zubeen’s unparalleled contributions to Assamese music, cinema, and cultural identity.
He stated, “Zubeen Garg’s final cinematic work represents not just a film, but a part of Assam’s artistic soul. The people of our state continue to honour his memory with immense love and gratitude.”
