The video has sparked widespread criticism from local residents who witnessed the incident.
What Happened?
According to local reports, the incident took place on Monday around 6:30 PM at the Tikunia Chowk area in Shahjahanpur. MLA Baburam Paswan was travelling in his Scorpio when it reportedly hit an e-rickshaw standing near the roadside. The impact damaged the indicator light of the MLA’s vehicle.
Following the collision, the MLA’s driver stopped the car and demanded ₹4,000 as compensation from the e-rickshaw driver, identified as Chhatrapal. The driver tried to explain that he was not at fault, but the MLA allegedly became angry and insisted on the payment.
Public Protest at the Spot
People gathered quickly at the scene as the situation escalated. Residents questioned the MLA’s behaviour and started recording videos on their phones.
One young man asked the MLA, “Which area are you an MLA from?”
To this, Paswan replied, “Why do you want to know?”
The locals expressed their frustration, saying that leaders elected by the people should not behave rudely with common citizens. Some people offered to pool money to cover the damage but condemned the MLA’s attitude.
MLA Leaves the Spot Quietly
As the crowd grew and the protest intensified, MLA Baburam Paswan reportedly decided to leave the spot without taking any compensation. The video of him walking away is now widely circulating online.
