The Indus Zone Tech Desk | Bengaluru, October 16, 2025 — In a major step toward becoming a full-fledged clean energy company, Ola Electric Launches ‘Ola Shakti, led by Bhavish Aggarwal, has officially entered the battery energy storage system (BESS) segment with the launch of its new product line, Ola Shakti. The move marks the company’s expansion beyond electric mobility into the broader renewable energy ecosystem — a significant milestone in India’s transition to sustainable energy solutions.
Ola Electric’s Big Leap into Energy Storage
The newly launched Ola Shakti is a portable energy storage device designed to deliver reliable backup power for homes, farms, and businesses. It can power high-load appliances like air conditioners, refrigerators, and water pumps, providing up to 1.5 hours of backup at full capacity.
According to Bhavish Aggarwal, this launch represents Ola’s long-term vision to go beyond electric scooters and mobility solutions. “We didn’t name the company Ola Auto; we named it Ola Electric because our mission has always been larger — to build India’s clean energy future,” Aggarwal said during the launch event.
He added, “With Ola Shakti, we’re entering the last-mile grid complementing space. This product is designed to deliver solar storage, voltage stability, and portable power for Indian homes and businesses.”
Pricing, Variants, and Availability
Ola Shakti will be available in four configurations — 1.5 kWh, 3 kWh, 5.2 kWh, and 9.1 kWh, priced at ₹29,999, ₹55,999, ₹1,19,999, and ₹1,59,999 respectively. The company is offering these prices as part of an introductory offer for the first 10,000 customers.
Pre-bookings have already opened for ₹999, and deliveries are scheduled to begin by Makar Sankranti 2026.
Each unit is designed to support seamless power transition, featuring instant power changeover, IP67-rated weatherproof batteries, and real-time performance tracking through a connected mobile app.
A Step Toward Self-Reliant Clean Energy
The introduction of Ola Shakti signals Ola Electric’s diversification into renewable energy and battery storage — areas that are expected to drive the next wave of industrial and household electrification in India.
“Ola Shakti represents a fundamental shift in how Indians access and consume energy,” Aggarwal said. “It’s a portable, scalable solution for homes, farms, and small businesses. We expect our BESS operations to scale up to 5 GWh of annual consumption within the next two years.”
This projection highlights the growing demand for compact, efficient, and affordable power solutions, especially in rural and semi-urban India where power stability remains a challenge.
Leveraging Ola’s Gigafactory and Battery Technology
Ola Electric plans to utilize its existing gigafactory infrastructure and 4680 lithium-ion cell technology for producing Ola Shakti units. This strategic move ensures faster scalability without major additional investment.
“Our gigafactory in Tamil Nadu gives us a strong supply chain advantage. It allows us to produce batteries, components, and cells at scale, all within India,” Aggarwal explained. “This helps us deliver reliable, locally made clean energy products.”
The company will also use its extensive nationwide service and retail network — originally built for its EV business — to provide after-sales service and distribution for Ola Shakti. “Our existing stores and service centers will double as energy hubs,” Aggarwal added.
B2C and B2B Expansion Plans
Initially, Ola Shakti will target the B2C market, offering energy solutions for households and small businesses. However, Aggarwal confirmed that a B2B version of the product is also in the works.
“The B2B product will be a container-based grid solution, suitable for industrial applications and microgrids. It can also be stacked up to 27 kWh to power small communities or farms,” he said.
This dual approach — addressing both consumer and commercial segments — underscores Ola Electric’s ambition to position itself as a major player in India’s clean energy ecosystem.
Competitive Edge and Market Potential
Ola’s entry into the battery energy storage market comes at a time when India’s demand for decentralized energy systems is rapidly increasing. Government initiatives supporting renewable energy integration and EV adoption are expected to drive the growth of the BESS sector, making it one of the most promising industries of the decade.
By offering scalable, affordable, and locally produced energy solutions, Ola Electric aims to bridge the gap between mobility electrification and household energy needs.
Moreover, the company’s existing dominance in the EV market — with products like the Ola S1 scooters and Roadster X motorcycles — gives it a strong foundation of technology, manufacturing, and consumer trust.
Ola Shakti: A Vision for the Future
With Ola Shakti, Bhavish Aggarwal envisions a future where homes and businesses are energy-independent. The product aims to make clean energy accessible, portable, and reliable — a true embodiment of India’s “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiative.
“Ola Electric is not just building vehicles; we are building the entire energy ecosystem for the country,” Aggarwal said. “We want to ensure that every Indian home and business has access to stable, renewable power — even in remote areas.”
As Ola Electric takes this bold step into the energy storage solutions market, it not only strengthens its position as an innovation-driven company but also sets the stage for India’s next big leap toward sustainable power independence.
